I thought long and hard about a category name for these toys. They are basically toys which allow children to act the role of mini-adults and what kid doesn't like to copy their parents or the people they see in everyday life? Playing at being somebody else is the basic theme here. They don't necessarily entail dressing up (but are often more fun if you do!)
